Ahhh so cool! Last winter, Hank Annable (Oberlin’s coolest, oldest trapper) found a dead deer out at the wetland with a really wonky antler.

All-American Adventures!

Great day, thanks to Maryli! Went on America Quest (read: put on capes/hats, went to various all-American locales) to celebrate being back in the states. Pictures soon.

So I did a really shitty job of reporting my Costa Rica adventures in the last month or so. In summary:

- Worked for a month on an independent project. I investigated the effects of forest fragment size and edge on the density and distribution of tree-falls within fragments. This involved lots of tramping through woods and scrambling under barbed wire and getting mud on everything.

- Walked a lot. Into town, back home, out to field sites. Walkwalkwalk.

- Awkward host family interactions. Woop de doooooo.

- Wrote a paper on my project. Presented my research to my peers and instructors.

- Good bye barbecue, paint party, impromptu graduation ceremony for Jeff.

- One last hike through the forest. One last singalong. 

- Hot springs by Arenal Volcano (read: water park).

- Tearful goodbyes. I was that emotionally stunted asshole who was dry-eyed.

- Until the next few days of course, when I cried almost non-stop. In public.

And now:

- Missing people. And places. But mostly people.

- Trying to find distractions.

- But also happy to see friends and my mountains!
